A pleasure shared is a pleasure doubled

Playing drums by yourself is fun but playing drums with other musicians is a pleasure shared and a pleasure doubled.

That’s why I’m keen to give my students the chance to play with a live band.

Here’s how this works:

Interested parties choose a number of songs from the Soul Food (my function band) set list. I then teach the respective drummers these tracks in their lessons. Once ready, the drummer in question literally takes my seat and performs these tracks with my Soul Food colleagues in rehearsal. Or sometimes even live in concert.

One of my drummers that benefitted from the experience is Chelsea. Here’s what she has to say:

It was great to play with a real band rather than a backing track and to be able to lead rather than stick to a click track. I was nervous at first, but everyone involved was really supportive and the experience turned out to be very confidence building. I even ended up playing live with Soul Food 🙂

A pleasure shared is indeed a pleasure doubled.
